The now famous metaphor of the arc has been used by many speakers and writers – the most prominent being Martin Luther King Jr. who said, “Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

Reflecting on this statement can be comforting – it’s as if we’re saying that – regardless of the current situation – in the end everything will work out okay.

But let’s play a devil’s advocate here and dig a little deeper. Some questions that come to mind are:

How come the arc of the moral universe bends at all?

…and more importantly:

How does it know WHICH WAY TO BEND?

How does it know which way is RIGHT and which way is WRONG?

Are these some universal forces bending it – like the law of gravity or other that applies here?

I do not pretend to understand the moral universe and I’ve never been great at physics, barely making it to satisfactory grade in high school, but my uneducated guess based on what I see happening in the world today is that there are no outside forces bending the arch one way or the other – it is up to all of us (humans) to bend it one way or the other.

The arc of the moral universe bends – but it doesn’t – AND IT WON’T – bend toward justice on its own!

The arc bends through STRUGGLE.

The arc doesn’t bend by itself  it is bent by individuals CARVING and LEADING THE WAY toward justice.

Individuals who DO GIVE A DAMN.

Individuals who have the COURAGE and CONVICTION and BELIEF.

Who do it even if it’s not convenient, even if it means they have to risk their comfort – or life.

Who are those individuals – those brave souls who are leading the way?

Are these politicians? Religious leaders? Congress people? Business people? Creators of the Laws? The Elites? The 1%? The masses?

Unfortunately – mostly NOT.

Unfortunately the vast majority of people – whether in power or just ordinary people like you and me DON’T GIVE A DAMN and are too LAZY to even take good care of themselves – do things like quitting smoking or eating a healthy diet – not to mention taking a stance for something as DISTANT AND ABSTRACT as the ‘greater good’, ‘justice for all’ or ‘world peace’ – and believe that ‘everything is just going to be okay’ and that ‘things will just work out for the best on their own’.

But you know what? They don’t always do.

Sometimes things don’t work out for the best.

Sometimes things take a turn for the worse.

The arc bends the wrong way.

And even when it bends, justice may or may NOT be just around the bend.

Ultimately — it’s up to all of us. It’s up to you and me.

We cannot afford to sit back and relax and WAIT for the BENDING TO JUST F*CKING HAPPEN ON ITS OWN.

Let’s face it: things are bad and seem to be getting worse – instead of better – every day. Even a casual perusing of the daily headlines provides ample reason for pessimism, from perpetual warfare and the ravages of climate change to economic collapse, environmental destruction and the recent rise of terrorist state. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist, or even an avowed pessimist to surmise that the ship is sinking and that actual world peace and justice may soon become a faded memory.

With all of what is going on in the world today – this is not the time to be on the sidelines.

This is not the time to remain unbiased.

This is not the time to stay neutral.

This is not the time to ‘relax and take it easy’, nor to indulge ourselves in the hedonism or resignation.

Instead, we need to wake up every day and TAKE A STAND.

Instead, we need to wake up every day and LIVE LIKE WE GIVE A DAMN, and be the CREATORS of the world we desire to inhabit.

It is my deepest belief that there are no neutral actions – with each action we take, even the smallest one, like taking a bite to eat, we MAKE A CHOICE.

With each choice, WE TAKE A STAND.

Either for good, or for bad.

For justice or against it.

So what is it going to be?

Do you just want to be left alone because things “just work out OK” in the end?

Martin Luther King’s true legacy was in proving that people can make a difference by their words and actions.

Do you really think it’s okay to just stay on the sidelines and wait for others to do all the work because it’s not up to you, because you don’t know how, because you’re too busy, and have other more urgent things to do? Like mowing your lawn. Or removing the snow from your sidewalk – depending on which hemisphere you’re on, or whatever.

People say they want to find meaning and purpose and passion in their lives – but they aren’t looking for it in the right places. The meaning is not found in buying a bigger house or better car or even going on exotic vacation. You won’t find passion and purpose by winning a lottery (although a couple of million in the bank would surely be nice!).

Do you actually feel COOL with it, when you go to bed at night and know that you spent another day being busy without actually achieving ANY thing that really matters?

No? So let’s start TODAY by getting busy bending the arc towards justice and creating the world we desire to inhabit for our generation and the generations that are to come.

Not sure how? Don’t know what to do? What you could contribute?

The good news it’s not that hard.

It starts where you are now.

The revolution begins in your home, in your shopping cart – and in your kitchen.

It begins with you speaking your truth and taking a stance for what is right – every day.

If not now, then when?

If not you, then who?

PS. How Can I Help YOU?

I believe that each one of us has a limited time in this world — so why not make the best use of it, right?!

I know that you probably don’t need more information. You don’t need another tactic or tool.

What you may need though, is help with implementation. Putting all that useful information to good use.

To get the TRANSFORMATION that you desire, to create the CHANGE and reach the GOALS that you want to achieve – it’s not about learning or researching more stuff.

It’s not about knowing more FACTS, weighting PROS and CONS, listening what the EXPERTS and GURUS have to say more….

It’s not simply about EDUCATION any more (although getting the right information, education and all the facts is essential).

But it’s about TAKING ACTION. The RIGHT action.

Talk is cheap. Information is cheap. You can google anything and find the answers fast and easy (whether or not these are the most relevant answers, or even the CORRECT answers is irrelevant – what everybody is looking for are FAST and EASY RESULTS).

Buying another ebook or program – when you KNOW you’re not going to implement it – or often even read the whole thing – is not going to bring you results.

So if you feel like you’re stuck and need some help to get UNSTUCK — let’s talk.

Simply fill out this form – Strategy Session Questionnaire  or – Friend me on Facebook  and message me – let’s have a quick chat there to see if we are a good fit.
